Gempool is hiring for their client who is a global M&E consultancy supporting large-scale engineering projects within the digital infrastructure and built environment sectors. With a strong presence in the data centre space, they specialise in low-energy design and end-to-end project delivery, helping clients achieve carbon-neutral ambitions while building mission-critical facilities worldwide.

As part of their continued growth in Ireland, they are now seeking a Mechanical Technical Director to join their Dublin team. This is a senior leadership role, focused on driving high-performance engineering delivery across some of the most technically complex projects in Europe.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Take the lead on the design, coordination, and delivery of mechanical services for major data centre projects.

  • Support the senior leadership team in business strategy, team development, and local office management.

  • Carry out feasibility studies, project fee proposals, and commercial diagnostics.

  • Engage directly with clients to understand and define project objectives.

  • Monitor and manage project progress, producing regular updates and reports for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Specify mechanical control systems, instruments, and operating methodologies for high-efficiency solutions.

  • Conduct site surveys and performance testing of mechanical systems.

  • Ensure projects meet commercial targets, including margin and budget control.

  • Oversee the construction and installation phases, providing hands-on technical direction.

  • Build and maintain long-term client relationships and identify new business opportunities.

  • Mentor junior engineers, encouraging technical growth and progression within the team.

  • Participate in tender processes, contractor selection, and equipment procurement.

  • Represent the organisation at technical meetings and industry events.

  • Contribute to internal technical knowledge through white papers and best practice sharing.

  • Deliver work to the highest quality standards, aligned with the firm’s project delivery process and QA/QC expectations.

Ideal Candidate Profile:
  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or related discipline.

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is essential.

  • Extensive experience in mechanical design across high-value construction projects, ideally including data centres or similar mission-critical environments.

  • Strong understanding of international codes, Irish building regulations, and sustainability goals.

  • Proven commercial awareness, with experience in budget control and project financials.

  • Confident user of design tools, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office suite.

  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with a track record of managing teams and mentoring junior staff.

  • Able to represent the business at a senior level with clients, contractors, and consultants.

  • Background in consultancy or construction is highly desirable.

Note: This is a full-time, permanent opportunity offering a competitive salary of up to €120,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package. The role will be based in Dublin  with the expectation of being in-office 5 days a week for the first 3 months, transitioning to a hybrid model (3 days in-office) thereafter.
