Job Description
Role: AOSP Software Engineer
Location: Dublin
Work Model: Hybrid (2–3 days onsite per week)
Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: €60,000–€70,000
Job Overview:
At GemPool, we are partnering with a dynamic technology company based in Dublin that specialises in cutting-edge mobile and software development solutions. They are currently seeking an experienced AOSP Software Engineer to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis.
The company is developing child-protection software designed to ensure safe internet usage for children by analysing all incoming and outgoing data on their devices. The software filters offensive content and alerts parents when an imminent threat is detected. Its goal is to protect children from online bullying, coercion, harassment, and grooming across device communication channels, creating a safer online environment.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in developing and deploying code changes within the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) while optimising performance across the full software stack.
Core Responsibilities:
- Implement and deploy code changes within AOSP to mobile hardware devices.
- Utilise Android SDK, NDK, JNI, IPC, and AIDL to deliver development tasks.
- Apply reactive and asynchronous programming methodologies.
- Debug complex, system-level, multi-component issues across layers ranging from kernel to application.
- Profile performance issues and lead optimisation initiatives across the software stack.
- Manage source control, build automation, unit testing, system testing, regression testing, and participate in code reviews.
Skills Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ professional software engineering experience.
- At least 2 years of hands-on AOSP development experience.
- Strong proficiency with Android SDK, NDK, JNI, IPC, and AIDL.
- Experience with C, C++, and/or Rust is advantageous.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical issues to technical stakeholders.
