About the Role
Our client is seeking a junior to mid-level Mechanical Design Engineer to join a dynamic mechanical engineering team supporting large-scale critical infrastructure projects across the EMEA region. In this role, you will collaborate closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams in design, construction, operations, and sustainability to support the delivery of new-build data centres.
You will contribute to the design of multi-million-euro mechanical systems that support a wide range of customers and technical requirements. Creativity and innovation are encouraged, and you will be empowered to propose solutions that improve quality, speed, and cost efficiency. If you have strong HVAC/mechanical design skills, experience with critical equipment, and an understanding of constructability, this role may be an excellent fit.
This position is fully onsite in Dublin, with access to office space, tools, and all required technical resources.
What You’ll Do
- Support general HVAC and mechanical design activities for critical infrastructure in new-build data centres across EMEA
- Work on simultaneous projects in multiple geographic regions
- Review and approve equipment submittals
- Manage external design consultancy firms throughout design development and release
- Collaborate with internal engineering, construction, and operations teams to understand technical requirements
- Troubleshoot issues and support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Actions (CA) for design-related challenges
- Define project scopes and support construction phases as needed
- Engage with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify appropriate mechanical equipment
- Travel to project sites to conduct engineering reviews, audits, and site launch support
- Participate in knowledge-sharing and adopt client-specific design standards
- Contribute creative, practical, and innovative engineering solutions
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related discipline
- 5+ years’ experience in HVAC, data centre cooling, electronics cooling, or building services
- Ability to research emerging technologies, designs, and construction methods for data centre environments
- Ability to progress new design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment
- Strong business case analysis skills to support technical decision-making
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer status and/or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience in data centre or mission-critical facility design (Pharmaceutical, Hospital, Semi-Conductor, etc.)
- Understanding of BIM workflows and CFD modelling
- Experience managing consultants through design, construction, and project execution
- Background in fast-track design/build or major upgrade projects
- Previous exposure to large-scale technical operations or compute environments
- Strong knowledge of building codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
A Day in the Life
You’ll work as a creative problem-solver, interpreting complex technical requirements and translating them into robust mechanical system designs. Your day may involve developing conceptual designs, reviewing site feasibility, coordinating cross-disciplinary technical solutions, and contributing to the engineering of cutting-edge data centre infrastructure.
About the Team
You’ll join a collaborative and forward-thinking team that embraces innovation and shared problem-solving. This group values diverse perspectives and encourages each member to contribute ideas that advance technical excellence and project success.
